Cerebral Core Meltdown is an ambiguous title. The direction I have intended for it is equally ambiguous. I also enjoy the images the name conjures when hearing it. While I have an overarching objective of dissecting the evolution of popular media as a whole, I will most likely have many low-level analyses of media I personally enjoy. It may be a simple review of a televisione episode I enjoyed, or it may be a random tangent about random microcosm of popular culture that peeves the goddamn hell out of me.  It’s all relevant, even when it’s indirect.

I’m Eric Peterson.  I caught the tail end of the 80s and all of the ridiculously carefree 90s. I’m a 1/3 geek, 1/3 nerd, and 1/3 hipster. I’ve spent an inordinant amount of time on the Internet, doing mostly nothing. Absolutely nothing. So, I created this blog to try to do something. I’m not sure if nothing is more interesting than something, though.

Why I’m a Geek: I’ve been playing video/computer games for as long as I can remember; I grew up with them. I build computers. I watch science fiction television religiously. I played EverQuest instead of socializing like a normal kid during high school.

Why I’m a Nerd: I’m a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a BA in Digital Media. I don’t really consider myself much of an academic nerd, though. I was never very interested in scholastic achievement for the sake of scholastic achievement. I was interested in school simply because I love to learn, and sometimes this got in the way of getting a good grade. My opinion of what was relevant was not always parallel to the professor’s. But this is probably more symptomatic of my being a smartass.

This is one thing that I believe must be universal to all who call themselves nerds: we love to learn, and we love to know. Not only do I love science fiction and other media, I have to dissect it. I have to contemplate what it means in the context of the human condition, if anything. Also, I guess many of us these days are a part of the Google Generation. If I see an acronym I don’t know or anything else I’m not sure about, I instantly have to look it up. I don’t need to be able to write a report on it, but I need to know the main bullet points. It cannot be simply an unknown placeholder for more information inside my brain.

Why I’m a Hipster: Partly because I put this here to be ironic. Partly because being geeky and nerdy have become hip on their own. Partly because I’m fully congnizant of but not necessarily in agreement with all of Pitchfork’s top 100 album lists of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. But mostly because I’m writing in a blog.
